Tashkent Chimes architectural complex, known as Tashkentskiye kuranty in local parlance, is a “centre of time” that combines the traditional and contemporary arts of Uzbekistan. It is now viewed as a platform for a dialogue of cultural and historical epochs of our country.
The complex comprising two buildings is a unique architectural solution which, in a natural fashion, embraces the aesthetic past and the dynamic present.
The newly built Tashkent Chimes houses a showroom displaying ancient and contemporary jewelry masterfully created by members of crafts dynasties, replications of the best items of traditional arts with the use of rare techniques and precious metal braiding, and other unique exhibits.
The old edifice of complex offers visitors unique samples of traditional Uzbek arts and antiques. It includes a colourful collection of suzane, ethnographic clothing, stamping (late 19th - early 20th centuries), carved wood items by masters of Tashkent and Kokand schools, archaeological exhibits (7th-19th centuries), paintings, ceramics, and pottery made by various local Uzbek schools (2nd half of 20th century). Another eye-catching line of exhibits includes works by contemporary artists and designers who have attempted to represent a 21st-century view of national traditions. These include fabrics, suzane and clothing crafted by young masters using restored ancient technologies.
