The Employment Aid Program for Young Women was launched in 2010.
The project was organized by the Women’s Council Public Association, National Association of Microfinance Organizations and Credit Unions (NAMOCU) in conjunction with Xalqamir Mehr LLC and Bernina Tikuv-mash LLC. The Program will help to empower women, boost female leadership in the socio-economic sphere and create home-based jobs. Under the programme, women from all regions of Uzbekistan will be given Swiss-made sewing machines. All the grantees will be provided with free training sessions by highly-qualified speciliasts from Switzerland.
Also, under the project two sewing machines have been given to a seamstresses’ workshop employing disabled people. This workshop, a pilot project, was set up under the aegis of the Women’s Council Public Association at Rakat mahalla (community) Tashkent’s Yakkasaroy district with the goal of improving the current system of professional training and employment for disabled people.

Natalya Hon, sewing machine recipient (Tashkent region):
“I`m blissed out today as I have received a sewing machine from the Women`s Council. I took up sewing when I was in school. My mother, who is paralyzed now, used to be a seamstress and taught me a lot. And now I can help her. If it wasn`t for this Program, I wouldn`t be able to get a sewing machine on my own. We`re blessed that we have this sort of programs and people who devise them. There are many people with needs, so it`s pleasing when their needs are taken care of.”
