
The program started in 2007, 6000 people took part in it. The goal of the program is the development and implementation of a national model of inclusive education in pre-school and primary school education through the organization of 12 mixed groups and classes in the cities of Navoi, Termez, Karshi, Dzhizzak, Samarkand and Kokand.
Around 1.5 bln soums has been channeled into the project since 2007. The project has included a series of workshops attended by children with disabilities, Special Olympics games involving children with disabilities from all parts of Uzbekistan as well as international forums at one of which the Social Initiatives Support Fund was awarded a certificate in recognition of its active support of children with special needs.
The project saw the development of a concept of the National Model of Inclusive Education in the form of a manual, which has been introduced into the system of pre-school and primary education at pilot schools.
In the years the project has been on, a 20-percent increase has been reported in the disabled children`s emotional and social state and their abilities to gain knowledge. Thus, the introduction of inclusive education in pilot schools has resulted in changes in attitudes toward people with disabilities, which creates a potential for everyone to be successful.
