The following topics were discussed at the conference: new global governance for the 21st century; Europe's security structure; economic crisis as a threat to security and energy supply; stability through regional frameworks related to Eastern Europe and the Caspian region; and economic challenges in the Western Balkans.

The forum was attended by Danilo Turk, the Slovenian president, Prime Minister Borut Pahor and Foreign Minister of Slovenia Samuel Žbogar, Prime Minister of Macedonia Nikola Gruevski, Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn, the speaker of the Czech parliament Miloslav Vlček, UAE Minister of Foreign trade Sheikh Lubna Al Qasimi, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Jones, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Ján Kubiš, OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, as well as the foreign ministers of Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, India, Croatia, Albania, and the heads of several major political and economic research centers and companies in Europe.

Annual Strategic Forum in Bled was initiated in 2006 by Slovenian Foreign Ministry and Center for European Perspectives. Discussions here are held as interactive dialogue. The main objective of the Forum is to identify the strategic issues affecting the European and transatlantic community, with a view to further developing and applying new strategies that will allow Europe to realize its potential and the available space. Another objective of the Forum is to strengthen public and private partnership towards addressing these strategic issues. The forum involved state leaders, heads of foreign political and economic departments, as well as prominent political scientists, parliamentarians and experts from many countries of Europe, the USA, Russia, China, India and others.
