The Tashkent round-table titled “Joining forces to address breast cancer and other cancerous diseases” concluded with the signing of a Programme of Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer and Rehabilitation of Women Diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The event brought together 160 specialists and representatives of different organizations. In a message to the round-table participants, Gulnara Karimova, the initiator of the event and creation of the Programme, thanked everyone for their participation in the event which brought together representatives of diverse bodies interested in the solution of breast cancer. Gulnara noted that the goal of the round table was to prepare for an international breast cancer forum to take place in May this year under the aegis of the Women`s Council Public Association, EUROPA DONNA-Uzbekistan, ‘In the Name of Life` Association of Women, the Social Initiative Support Fund, with Health Ministry officials among participants.

The implementation of the Programme of Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer and Rehabilitation of Women Diagnosed with Breast Cancer provides for a professional approach to the problem on part of government bodies, medical establishments, pharmaceutical companies on the basis of NGOs, as well as a socially oriented approach based on work with the population, attraction of the public attention to the problem, encouraging preventive measures and early detection, creation and dissemination of informational products.

“We are presenting a Programme which is currently in its final stages of development,” said Gulnara Karimova in her message to the participants. “Throughout work on the Programme specialists defined and analysed the most important aspects of the problem and, based on this, mapped out corresponding tasks to be dealt with. On this final stage of the Programme development what matters a lot is participation not only by medical specialists but also all those structures which may play their role in and contribute to this vital cause. We are hopeful that this Programme will be supported by many reliable and interested partners and that we will have achieved tangible results in its implementation for the upcoming international forum, because we are all aware of the need for real action and assistance needed by those for whose sake we have launched these efforts.”
