What is the reason of Art Week Style.uz project`s successful development? According to competent people who follow the project from its very foundation, it is a clever combination of creative and administrative component. Ideas are generated and then quickly put into practice. Moreover, this feature is inherited from the project`s author - Gulnara Karimova, who always finely combines a creative person and an artist, administrator and manager in herself. The artist creates in a free flight of ideas, and manager skillfully materializes these same ideas.
Art Week Style.uz is the same typical story. Each year the project expands, acquires new components, absorbing more and more segments of the arts and culture. Fashion, theater, visual arts, photography, modern art, archeology ... so many different directions are skillfully kept in a single body of Art Week Style.uz. In fact Owing this combination, it is managed to weave the thread of art exhibitions "Signs of Time" and "Aristotle`s Mystery" into the overall fabric of the large project so seamlessly, along with fashion and style, archeology and thematic debates.
15 works have tried to reveal "Aristotle`s Mystery", who argued that in creativity size and shape of the depicted bodies must exactly match the reality. Using the most different kinds of modern art techniques - from painting and video art installations to the design and fashion - the young artists worked with the theme of the entire exhibition - the cow.
As a result, the following kinds of artistic images of cows were presented: painting, "Biocow" installation, "Untitled" object - a field where cow is absent, but it is clear that it was here (pinched grass, tire cord), metal construction, and other animals. Memorable exhibit is the animal figure painted in red and, moreover, divided in two halfs and placed in two different rooms.
“Signs of Time” International Exhibition of Contemporary Art developed a topic "... And have been/have not been to Arcadia...". Arcadia for the modern artist is a world of illusions, which he plunges down. Participants of the exhibition, among them CATHERINE METAIS, each in its own way immersed in the illusion in Ming O`rik Archeological Monument.
In ancient Greece, Arcadia was the name of a region in the Peloponnesus peninsula. It was inhabited by shepherds and farmers famed for their pure morals and hospitality. Later, French court poets of the 17th-18th centuries invented a tale of Arcadia Land, where jovial shepherds led a carefree life of pastoral idyll. Their “Arcadian idylls” were long remembered. Later, a newly coined phrase “Arcadian shepherds” was used to derisively refer to happy-go-lucky people. This, in turn, gave rise to another notion: a utopia, illusions, eternal hopes, grand modernistic projects leading to catastrophes.
The project centres on the notions of Time, Life, and Art, which are united by the artists` personal experience.
The choice of Ming o`rik as the venue for the exhibition is expected to put each work into a particular context and boost the originality of interpretation. The artists must break free from the confines of expositional presentation for the sake of another principle: create a specific space where various individual projects and collective efforts mingle and clash in a thinking space. When this is achieved, the show turns into more than just a collection of visual aesthetic objects; it conveys the artist`s conceptual message across.
Participants of the exhibition (Uzbekistan, Russia, France, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan) does not represent a single generation slice or artistic associations - quite the contrary, they belong to an entirely different age groups have different creative orientation and installation. However, they are all united by some general principle of the methodology for the handling the reality, thinking about past experience that is relevant to the present and future.
