August 16, 2010

Around 500 people came together to attend the opening ceremony of Navqiron O`zbekiston (Young Uzbekistan) Festival of Traditional and Contemporary Art, which has helped discover and support young artists and masters of applied art for several years now. This festival - a brainchild of Gulnara Karimova - is held by the Fund Forum and the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan every two years and draws young talents from all over Uzbekistan. This year over 1,000 works are on display at Tashkent`s Youth Creativity Palace from August 16 to September 16.
First held in 2004, the Festival gives young artists an opportunity to realize their potential in all areas of contemporary and traditional art. Only people with completed secondary specialized education may participate in the contest. If those wishing to apply are masters of traditional arts, they must be followers of a particular school and provide a letter of recommendation from an apprentice. In this way the Organizing Committee tries to emphasize the quality of works. Participation in the Festival is open to artists, sculptors, designers, photographers and masters of applied art below 35 years old. Applications were received from June 1 to August 1, 2010 from people from all regions of Uzbekistan, capital Tashkent and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The Fourth Navqiron O`zbekiston Festival, which will last until August 24, will include master classes by local artists, art historians, designers, sculptors, as well as presentations by participants of the Festival. Attendance at the events is free of charge.
