Gulnara Karimova, the Chairperson of the Fund Forum`s Board of Trustees, and Samuel Eto`o, an international football celebrity and two-time winner of UEFA Champion League, signed a Cooperation Memorandum between the Fund Forum and Samuel Eto`o Foundation, launching another project of the Fund Forum. The goal of the project is to lend support to young footballers in Uzbekistan. The first project in this direction was an event during which Samuel Eto`o handed special sponsor packages to the young players of the academies under Uzbekistan`s Pakhtakor and Bunyodkor clubs.
Since March 2006, the Fund Forum has awarded grants to 190 athletes in various sports. Symbolically, the grants have been handed to the young talents by Uzbek sport celebrities. In March 2007, Champion Forum sporting complex was opened as part of the project, where young promising athletes are trained by leading coaches free of charge.
28-year-old Samuel Eto`o is an Olympic champion, a two-time champion of Africa and a three-time champion of Spain. He won the League of Champions Cup twice. In 2006, he set up his own charitable foundation which aims to unite social initiatives in Africa. His foundation is running a series of projects in Cameroon and South Africa to support education and tackle xenophobia and racism, using football as a tool for social integration.
