Kelajak ovozi 2010: paving the way for the winners

Forty-five winners of Kelajak ovozi Talented Youth Contest were awarded by Gulnara Karimova, the chairperson of the Contest’s Organizing Committee, at the Youth Creativity Palace on December 24. The winners presented works that were judged by a jury composed of heads of institutes and universities, scholars, public figures and experts. Also, the International Olympic Committee honored the Fund Forum with its annual “Sport – Inspiring Young People” Trophy in recognition of its active efforts to contribute to sport, education and culture.

All told, 71,024 boys and girls aged 15 to 25 participated in the contest in 2010, and this amounts to a record number in terms of contests held in Uzbekistan. The contest tests applicants’ skills in four categories: Architecture and design (architecture, clothes design, interior design and landscape design); Information technologies, rationalization proposals and technical developments (web development, software, management improvement proposals, administering and production systematization); National and applied art (fine art, applied art, folklore and dances); Literature and journalism (prose, verse, and journalism).

Six finalists of the contest in the category “IT, Rationalization Proposals and Technical Developments” used the stage to present their projects before the jury and the audience, which included heads of institutes and universities, officials of ministries, other participants of the contest as well as journalists. The most interesting and promising projects in terms of practical use were picked for open presentations. Each presentation was rated by jury members.

The event concluded with the 45 winners being honored with diplomas and statuettes that symbolize further support from the Fund Forum, the contest’s Public Council and partner organizations as well as educational grants and special scholarships from Kelajak ovozi.

Note. The International Olympic Committee established its annual award in 1985. It is awarded to those who have made significant contributions to sport in their respective countries. In various years the award focused on various themes: for contributions to the development of sports journalism, to the fight against doping, support of the Olympic movement, etc. The IOC authorized National Olympic Committees to nominate organizations or individuals that have contributed significantly to a particular area that the annual award focuses on. Given that 2010 saw the first-ever Youth Olympic Games, this year’s theme aptly focused on youth. Considering the Fund Forum’s active efforts in the areas of culture, education and sport as well as projects seeking to support the youth, the NOC of Uzbekistan resolved to nominate the Fund Forum for the award. After considering the NOC’s application, the IOC informed the NOC of Uzbekistan of its decision to award the annual trophy to the Fund Forum.
