International Day of Disabled People marked in Uzbekistan

Tashkent`s Zarafshan Cinema and Concert Hall played host to a charitable exhibition of works by people with disabilities as well as a concert. Those invited to the concert include students of schools for disabled people, children from orphanages and mercy homes along with staff, officials of the diplomatic corps as well as representatives of public and international organizations. Around 500 people attended the events. The events have been organized by the Women`s Council and the Fund Forum, headed by Gulnara Karimova, Special Olympics Uzbekistan, UNDP and UNICEF representative offices, with support from the Women`s Committee of Uzbekistan, Tashkent City Mayor`s Office, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor and Social Maintenance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Kelajak ovozi (Voice of the future) Youth Initiative Center.

Scholarships and grants for young talented youth

Every year a series of youth programs of national scale seeking to support talented youngsters are run under the aegis of the Fund Forum. The number of people from across the country applying to the programs is growing year after year. In 2010, as many as 2,640 people participated in the Educational Grants Program while the figure for the Programs of Scholarships for Talented Students reached 1,300 people. The event to honor the winners of these projects as well as the grantees of the Programs of Sports Grants and Young Entrepreneurs Support Program was held on November 19 at the Youth Creativity Palace. The diplomas and certificates were presented by Gulnara Karimova, the Chairperson of the Fund Forum`s Board of Trustees.

An International conference "The Central Asian Transport Corridor: Prospects For Attracting International Freight Flows" was held on 18 November in Tashkent at the initiative of Doctor of Political Science, professor Gulnara Karimova. Organized by the Centre for Policy Studies and attended by experts from the countries of Central Asia (CA), CIS, Europe, North America, the Middle East, South Asia and the Pacific, and representatives of international companies and organizations specializing in transport communications and regional cargo transportation, the conference discussed the issues as development of new ideas in the field of logistics and management; strategies of companies to attract freight traffic, work with shipment entities, assessment of economic prospects of major economies and international transport, investment in the transport sector in Central Asia.

The trade fair Bazar-Art is one of the most eagerly awaited projects of master craftsmen, and inhabitants of the city. Because this is the very project that twice a year shows all the splendor and diversity of the traditional «hand made», created by the masters from various regions of the country. During the three days - from 16 to 18 November - in the Tashkent National Arts Centre everyone could get in touch with the work of the craftsmen, become owners of products to very different tastes - ceramics, chasing, textiles, jewelry and more. November 18 at a specially arranged ceremony, Gulnara Karimova noted and awarded the best exhibitors of the Bazar-Art-Autumn 2010 Trade Fair.

Loud Final Chord of Yangi Avlod 2010 Festival

Gulnara Karimova awarded grants to the winners of Yangi Avlod Children`s Creativity Festival at the final gala concert which traditionally involves the best participants of the Festival and pop stars. The Gala was hosted on November 17 at the Istiqlol Palace. Over seven years more than 72 000 children aged 6 to 14 from all regions of Uzbekistan took part in this project, which is a kind of model for discovering talented children in Uzbekistan. More than 2500 of them became winners, received grants, certificates and Fund Forums further support in professional and creative development.
