On May 11 Gulnara Karimova participated in an international round-table titled “Perspectives of the oil and gas sector in Central Asia in the context of global financial processes”, which was organized by the Center for Political Studies, headed by Gulnara Karimova, in collaboration with Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company. The open-discussion event focused on Central Asia’s energy potential and the perspectives of its development amid new trends in the global financial system.
The event was attended by domestic and foreign experts and heads of analytical offices, relevant bodies specializing in oil and gas industry issues, economic and energy security, world policies, as well as officials of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and energy companies accredited in Uzbekistan. More specifically, among the key energy corporations and international organizations represented at the round-table were Tethys, PETRONAS, Total, Repsol, Gazprom zarubezhneftegaz, Lukoil Overseas Uzbekistan, Sasol, Shlumberger, PLATTS, World Energy Council, and the International Energy Agency, among others.
The participants exchanged opinions on issues related to the further development of global economy and financial system in the context of their impact on the global energy market, perspectives of Central Asia’s energy potential and diversification of export routes from the region to the world market. Also, special attention was paid to the growing tendencies to ramp up technological and productive facilities for natural shale gas production and sale. Natural shale gas is now being considered as a potential hydrocarbon product able to bring about considerable change in the current oil and gas selling mechanism, particularly in the system of Eurasian continental deliveries and global energy as a whole.
As was noted by Gulnara Karimova, “it is of strategic importance for exporters from Central Asia to have an exhaustive and reliable picture of the ways of the world market development for the foreseeable future.” This is necessary in order to be able “to showcase your competitive advantages, including the resource and communication potential”.
The event was held as part of the 14th Uzbekistan International Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference OGU-2010, organized with support from I.T.E. Exhibitions & Conferences Ltd. (Great Britain) and ITE Uzbekistan.
