Special Prize "For outstanding contributions to promoting Uzbekistan`s arts on the international arena" was awarded Gulnara Karimova at closing ceremony of the International Biennale of Modern Art. This year's Biennale was opened under the most ambitious project in Central Asia - Style.uz-2009Art Week. This enabled modern authors - Biennale participants - to present their work to many international visitors, who came to the Art Week from around the world.
Biennale presented 8 art exhibitions, including the international Turkestan remake project, which was attended by 14 artists of Uzbekistan and the Dutch artist Luke Lot, as well as solo exhibition of the Art Weeks guest - Austrian artist Reinhard Brandner. "Modern art - the strategy of choice" scientific conference was also held as a part of the Biennale, where the main focus was on analytical assessment of modern art in the context of globalization and world economic crisis.
The foreign visitors and residents great interest to the Biennale-2009 is yet another proof of the fact that Uzbekistan attracts not only with its rich cultural heritage, but also the potential of modern art. Conducting Biennale within Style.uz Art Week opens up many new perspectives and opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between the Uzbek and foreign creative individuals.
