Day Six. Concluding Art Week “Style.Uz 2010”...

The final day of the Art Week proved as colorful and dynamic as the previous days, offering multifarious events: a master class by a Russian painter, a contemporary choreography and sporting dance international contest, the General Défilé by Dom Stilya, a concert by opera legend Jose Carreras, and Chopard jewelry presentation.

The day started with a master class by a famous Russian painter Alexander Ishenko for art specialists, young artists and art students. He used works by students to help analyze and correct possible errors in them. Alexander Ishenko viewed a series of still-lifes, collage pieces, photos of interior designs, jewelry pieces as well as glass painting and suzani, while commenting on these works with regard to correct composition, color conflict and other principles of fine arts. A native of Uzbekistan, Ishenko`s works reflect his aspiration for harmony and creativity.

The gala concert of the Contemporary Choreography and Sporting Dance International Conference featured performances by 43 groups with participants aged 5 to 25 from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and India. The dance categories included street dance, modern dance (free style), national dance, acrobatics and calisthenics. The performers of 23 dance numbers that were found to be the best were awarded diplomas, prizes as well as development grants by Gulnara Karimova, the Chairperson of the Fund Forum`s Board of Trustees.

The General Défilé by Dom Stilya (Hose of Style) closed the series of catwalk shows held as part of the Art Week. The closing catwalk show featured collections made of national fabrics by leading fashion designers of Dom Stilya: Elina Hairullina, Arten Drobyshev, Yasmin Vakhidova, Markhamat Umarova, Madina Kasymbayeva, Saodat Muratkhojayeva, UMI , Alexei Menshayev (also known as Kanishka) and the founder of Dom Stilya, author and designer of Guli fashion label Gulnara Karimova. It is noteworthy that Guli collection, on which Gulnara Karimova worked with Kanishka, was presented at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, where it drew positive remarks.

Towards the end of the show, the names of nine designers, who emerged as the Art Week laureates, were unveiled. These include Lali Fazylova, Denis Tamilin, Gulnoza Riskiyeva and Nadezhda Kim among others. The grand prix went to stage designer Andrei Lamanov.

The concert by opera legend Jose Carreras at the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan” testifies to the growing significance of the Art Week, which has seen several international celebrities perform in Uzbekistan. These include Julio Iglesias, Sting, Montserrat Caballe, and Rod Stewart. As in previous years, the bulk of the tickets to Jose Carreras` concert were distributed free of charge among leading culture and arts professionals of Uzbekistan, laureates of “Nihol” Prize and international contests, students of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Arts, Uspensky Music Academic Lyceum, soloists of Alisher Navoi Theater and the State Theater of Music Comedy as well as Art Week volunteers and participants of the Fund Forum`s youth contests and programs.

The day concluded with another evening during which world-renowned jewelry label Chopard presented its collection. This is the third time that Chopard, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, has done a presentation in Tashkent as part of the Art Week. Chopard co-president Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele not only honored the evening with her presence, but also ensured to visit each major event held during the Art Week, obviously taking delight in what each event had to offer.

...Art Week “Style.Uz 2010”, the biggest culture and fashion project in Central Asia, has come to an end. As the curtain falls on the fifth Art Week, it leaves all the guests and participants with expectations that next year it will bring new decorations, new names, new performances, showcase new trends and mix autumn melancholy with glittering events.
