June 21, 2010

On June 21, a famous French singer-songwriter Nilda Fernandez played a concert at Navoi Theater. Earlier, a famous Parisian guitarist Thibault Cauvin performed at the Youth Creativity Palace. The concerts that drew thousands of fans of the two singers were organized by the Fund Forum and Victor Hugo French Cultural Center.
Nilda Fernandez, a French singer of Spanish stock, has been able to draw huge audiences for over twenty years now. Nilda`s distinctive high-pitched voice coupled with Uzbek instruments during his Tashkent concert made for an energy-filled concert. The singer performed his best songs from albums of different years and combined Franco-Spanish melodies with Uzbek music.
Thibault Cauvin, another French talent, is nowadays considered as one of the most talented, charismatic and popular guitar players in France. Thibault has been warmly received in theaters and concerts halls in New York, Singapore, Sao Paolo, Istanbul, London, Melbourne and Seoul. He has given hundreds of concerts that have been received unanimously by critics. In Tashkent Thibault performed works by Domenico Scarlatti, Dietrich Buxtehude, Jobim, and Carlo Domeniconi.
In an effort to help boost cultural collaboration between Uzbekistan and France, this year the Fund Forum and Victor Hugo French Cultural Center are organizing a series of events presenting French culture and arts. These events will serve as a platform which will allow Uzbekistan`s and France`s culture and art professionals to swap experience. The events give young Uzbek musicians, artists and art professionals an opportunity to hone their skills, discover new facets and set up international contacts.
