Yesterday Gulnara Karimova awarded 50 grants to the winners of the Pedagogical Grants Programme announced annually across the Republic. The award ceremony took place at Tashkent`s Centre of National Arts.
The Programme was first announced by Gulnara Karimova in October 2006 on the eve of Teachers` Day in Uzbekistan. The project is aimed at supporting teachers and helping to boost their skills, and has drawn a big interest from potential participants: teachers at secondary schools, academic lyceums and higher educational institutions as well as researchers, senior teaching staff, and heads of educational institutions – directors of schools, colleges, deans, vice rectors and rectors.
This year, out of over 1,000 applications, fifty were selected. These applicants, who offered promising and innovative ideas and developments, will be supported during 2010. These grants will help the teachers to develop open lessons, organize lessons with the use of interactive teaching methods, to prepare modules and educational events. These grants will lead to research findings and to the development of new methodical and educational materials.
