On October 18, Tashkent hosted the launch of the Discussion Club set up at the initiative of Gulnara Karimova, the director of the Center for Political Studies, in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Foundation, “Tethys Petroleum Ltd.” (Canada) and “ITE Uzbekistan”.
The Discussion Club is a unique platform for setting up a professional dialog between Uzbek and international experts, which will lay the groundwork for generating new ideas and visions able to make an impact – both theoretically and practically – on the development of the political and economic school in Uzbekistan.
The event participants included local and international experts, representatives of international organizations, diplomatic missions as well as ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan.
The keynote speaker at the round-table was Professor Alexander Rahr, Program Director of the Berthold Beitz Center for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Central Asia at the German Council on Foreign Relations. Professor Rahr talked about the policy of Europe in the modern system of international relations.
The Discussion Club focused on a series of issues related to the development of world economy and policy, with special emphasis made on the analysis of European policy in relation to the USA and NATO; prospects for transatlantic partnership, policy toward Afghanistan, and the impact of the Afghan factor on the future of NATO and the transatlantic partnership.
The session also touched upon issues in the development of European-Chinese and European-Russian relations. The agenda also included an analysis and prospects of cooperation between Europe and Central Asia, the state and prospects of energy cooperation between Europe and Central Asia with an emphasis on the oil and gas aspect.
The Discussion Club is seen as an opportune initiative given the necessity to consider the most discussed issues in international politics and to generate optimal ways of addressing them.
The project Discussion Club, which is run by the Center for Political Studies, aims to make a meaningful contribution to the development of a new conceptual and comprehensive vision of resolving pressing issues on the regional political map.
